SPECIAL EVENT: National Hunger Action Day Cereal Drive
For many, a daily meal is a simple choice of what to eat. But for people facing hunger, a daily meal poses a very different type of choice. It’s often an impossible choice between food and other crucial needs, such as electricity, childcare, or medicine. The Fremont Chamber of Commerce, producers of Fremont Street Eats, is partnering with Tri City Volunteers for a Healthy Cereal Drive! Take action on HUNGER ACTION DAY! Bring a healthy unopened, undamaged, not expired cereal to donate at Fremont Street Eats on September 23. 3500 Capitol Avenue, Fremont, CA. 5 to 9pm. Help kids start their day off right!
SPECIAL PERFORMANCE: Hula ‘Ohana O Puananikauikawekiu
This Hula group is based in Fremont and led by Kumu Hula Aileen Gaspar. Kumu Aileen teaches both Hawaiian and Tahitian forms of dancing, but her focus is Hula (kahiko and ‘auana). The halau (school) is dedicated to the continuance of the Polynesian culture. Its main purpose is to promote awareness of the Hawaiian culture including its language and history, through chant, music, and dance. Their halau fosters traditional Hawaiian values such as lokahi (unity), ha'aha'a (humility), and kokua (helping others). In doing this, they strive to bring out the best in each individual while keeping harmony within the halau.
